- Navigate to your PC's "Control Panel "
- Click on "User Account"
- Click your user name from the list
- In the "Group" column, ensure that you've got Administrative privileges (expand column to see full list). If you don't, contact your Administrator/IT department
- A Mac users: Unfortunately LocalSSL Secure is not available to Mac users at this time.
- Not using the right browser: LocalSSL Secure is only available on Internet Explorer and FireFox browsers.
- Not meeting the system requirements below:
- OS: Windows 98, 2000, XP, Vista
- Browser: Internet Explorer 5.0 (and above), Firefox 2.0 (and above)
- CPU: Pentium III (and above) or equivalent in the AMD processor family

- What are Keyloggers?
The term keylogger refers to a small program that captures your keystrokes as you type in order to steal personal information like passwords and user ID’s. To do this, keyloggers do not require physical access to your computer. Keyloggers can be installed deliberately by someone who wants to monitor activity on a particular computer; unwittingly as spyware from a legitimate Web site; or executed as part of a rootkit or remote administration Trojan (RAT).
Don't existing anti-virus or anti-spyware programs provide sufficient protection?
Conventional anti-virus and anti-spyware programs only detect known malware. Therefore, newly created threats often go undetected because “fixes” have not yet been created. And, it may take days or even weeks for new threats to be recognized and a new patch deployed. - Do I still need my anti-virus and anti-spyware software?
Yes. The best way to secure your computer is by using multiple layers of protection. Even though anti-virus and anti-spyware programs cannot detect all malware, they are still needed to help detect and remove known malware programs. - Is LocalSSL Secure mandatory?
No. Credential Direct LocalSSL Secure is not mandatory; however its highly recommended. - Do I need to install LocalSSL Secure more than once?
Once you’ve downloaded LocalSSL Secure onto your computer you will not be required to download it again on that computer. You may need to download more than once if…
- You access your account from more than one computer
For example, if you visit Credential Direct from both your home and work computers you will need to download LocalSSL Secure to all computers that are used to access Credential Direct. - If you only download LocalSSL Secure to your home computer, then you are only protected while accessing Credential Direct from that computer.
- You use both Internet Explorer and Firefox to access your account
If you use Internet Explorer and Firefox interchangeably you will need to install LocalSSL Secure for both browsers to ensure that you are fully protected. - You have uninstalled LocalSSL Secure from the computer that you now wish to access Credential Direct
- If you have uninstalled LocalSSL Secure manually or through an automated process such as using a restore disk or restore point, then you will need to re-install LocalSSL Secure again. You will be able to detect whether it is operating by viewing the LocalSSL Secure icon (see question below).
- How do I know that LocalSSL Secure is active?
LocalSSL Secure will activate automatically every time you visit a Credential Direct Web page. To let you know its working, the LocalSSL Secure icon will appear in the lower right hand corner of your computer screen and below it, a blue security icon with the letters "CD" inside. The CD icon will flash with every keystroke you type, indicating that your information has been encrypted and is protected from identity theft. - Do I need to turn LocalSSL Secure on and off?
No. Credential Direct LocalSSL Secure automatically activates each time you visit Credential Direct and deactivates when you leave. - Does LocalSSL Secure protect me when I visit other Web sites?
No. LocalSSL Secure is only active while you’re on Credential Direct. - How do I uninstall LocalSSL Secure from my computer?
Go to your computer’s “Control Panel” and select the “Add or Remove Programs” button. Now select Credential Direct LocalSSL Secure from the program list and click “Remove”. Please be aware that uninstalling Credential Direct LocalSSL Secure will invalidate the Credential Direct security guarantee. Click here for more information. - How do I get rid of the “Install Missing Plugins” message in Firefox?
Some Firefox users will get the message above after installing LocalSSL Secure. To get rid of this message, just follow the steps below.
- Type “about:config” in your address bar
- Scroll until you see a line that says “plugin.default_plugin_disabled”
- Right click and select “toggle”, doing this will set the value from “true” to “false”
